OK. If "President Jeb" scared you, this one should make you pee your pants. If not, you scare ME!

Go read here about the technology being used in Germany and being prepared for implementation in Great Britain.

The deal is, the GOVERNMENT uses satellites to TRACK EVERY MILE YOU DRIVE and charge you a fee based upon congestion and locality. That's right - you pay the government money for driving on a per mile basis. And it's not self reported by any means.

Think about it: they're saying this system is already in use in Germany for trucks. They're looking at 10 years for full implementation in GB. So it just can't be long before they're scheming and rubbing their greedy little hands together in Washington.

First, be DEEPLY OFFENDED at the incredible money grab considering the obscene waste of tax dollars by governments.

Next, be TERRIFIED at the thought that there will be a device in your car that the government will use to track every mile you drive and when you drive it. Oh sure they might say the information won't be used for any other reason. But if you believe that I guess you're probably comfortable using Gmail, and you've never heard of Orwell.

Wow....I am not surprised...but can you give me more info on this thing with the Gmail...I just accepted an invitation to get gmail....I set it up, but I haven't used it yet...

Sure, Zeta: There are a lot of things.

1 - Google electronically scans every email that is sent through its system for keywords. This is how they attach the little ads that are part of each email. While no human is actually reading your email, you have to ask: what keywords to they scan for and who do they share the information with?

2. Google has massive archive capacity and they actually archive every email that goes through their system. Most email services delete files from their system about every 30 days. Not at Google. Your email never dies. Which means that 10 years from now Google can be subpoenaed to produce it. Really, this would probably never happen. But the fact that it can should bother every American.

3. They track the identity of every sender and recipient of every message in a massive database. They can share this information with their other business units.

Google operates on the assumption that information is power and they're all about gathering it.

yeah i think i should care more about my gmail account... just lulled into a false sense of security. i use yahoo for my real email account. the satellite stuff is really orwellian. they should call it "The Freedom and Liberty Network"

I have nothing against "use taxes", but I agree this is too Big Brother for my tastes.

What next, they stick heart monitors in everyone and tax by the heartbeat? That way, while it's going they can tax your life, then when it stops they can slap on a "Death tax"....

Oh yeah, the have that tax already also! ;~D

I live in Germany and I'm totally pissed off at the taxes on gasoline. Something like 75% of the price goes towards taxes! The rest is for the gas station. It's insidious.
